PROJECT 1: Multi-Generational Single-Family Residence

Assignment:

You are the architect for a multi-generational single-family residence project that is modern, accessible, energy-efficient, and resilient.

Your clients have inherited two properties – #1 (0.28 acres) and #5 (0.516 acres) Concourse W, Brightwaters – and both properties will be combined into one lot (0.796 acres).

  • Multi-generational: A grandparent, plus a family of five – parents and four children ages 8(f), 13(m), 18(m), and 23 (f). The 23-year-old daughter is an entrepreneur artist and needs an apartment and workshop.

  • Modern: Your clients are very excited to live on the water and would like their homes to “stand out” and be modern or “experimental” in design.

  • Accessible: The grandparent uses a wheelchair. All areas of the home are to be accessible.

  • Energy Efficient: Your clients are seeking a residence that meets Energy Star requirements for energy efficiency at a minimum.

  • Resilient: Your clients are concerned about rising water levels and hurricanes, and they are seeking a residence that will withstand these forces.
